SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Recently, studies have shown that more and more people are selling their houses for manufactured homes.

Three Stone Homes owner Daniel Stone said he’s definitely seen an increase in business in the Springfield area.”

“Six years running, it’s just more and more people as the word gets out, what is available,” Stone said, “most people come into this home, and they go oh my goodness, I can’t believe that this home, I’m thinking of a trailer house. They just have no concept of what today’s manufactured and modular homes look like.”

Stone explains the biggest reasons why more people are opting for these homes.

The price, “you can get into 50% to 80% of a site building and time, and all of your decisions are made up front, you know exactly what you’re getting,” said Stone.

Stone said manufactured homes can go as low as $50,000 for 1,100 square feet to $200,000 for 3,100 square feet.

In addition, buyers don’t need to worry about weather damage…

“All the homes are built in a factory that is climate controlled, the flooring is never rained on, the roof is never rained on, everything is in a controlled environment,” said Stone.

And it is fast to build a customized manufactured home.

“The time that it takes to build this structure is substantially less because we’ve built a variant of this home a hundred time,” Stone said.

He also explained why the age of buyers is also increasing.

“A lot of what we do is people who are downsizing,” said Stone, “people who want to take the advantage cost per foot, and own their home outright.”
